This past Sunday was the first chance that I have had in a while to actually go out and shoot. Not that I haven't been trying - but for some reason when I get home from work late at night I have a hard time answering the alarm at 4AM. Unexplainably, this past Sunday was different. I worked most of the day on Saturday and didn't get home until around 9:30. I spent the rest of the evening scouring the web for ideas as to where to shoot and scanning the area weather. Eventually I settled on McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area as my destination - after Jack confirmed on FB that the sunflowers were looking nice. Finally made it to bed at 11:45. Four AM came right on time and I woke with the question What day is it?. I am not sure why but instead of switching the alarm off and going back to sleep, I managed to get my feet on the floor and wobbled down the hall. Another half an hour of scratching my head and packing gear and I was out the door. The ride to the WMA was uneventful but very enjoyable as I watched the light in the sky change and the tufts of clouds here and there. When I got to the parking lot - it was packed - this was the most cars that I had ever seen in this lot - the flowers must be in rare form! (As it turns out, Blue Ridge was hosting a workshop and they had a fairly large group of folks, which explained the parking situation.) I grabbed my gear and my ladder and headed down the trail that leads to the fields. As I was walking along I heard someone yell out - I know that guy - it was Wes Norman - who was there with the group. What an awesome surprise! Wes is a friend that I made while attending a couple of the The Mindful Eye workshops with Craig Tanner. Always quick with a smile and generous to a fault - Wes is one of the kindest persons that I know. What a treat catching up with him. Afterward, on my way home, I was happy to realize that the whole reason I had managed to get up that morning had to do with Wes being there and some how the energy that surrounds us all drew me to this impromptu meeting of the souls. Pretty cool! Cheers! |
